Novi mediji | Nove metode: Digitalna historiografija i izvedba

Novomedijske tehnologije svima su nam poznate: lagane, povoljne digitalne kamere; povećana digitalna zapremnina na karticama, kompjuterima, mobilnim telefonima i pripadajućim aplikacijama; društvene mreže za komunikaciju i razmjenu ideja, često pomoću slika i videa. Iako svaka od tih tehnologija ima svoju pojedinačnu poviiest, njihovo preplitanje zadnjih 10 godina stvorilo je novi kontekst za razmatranje kazališta i izvedbe, posebno po pitanju dokumentacije. Studiji koji se bave kazalištem i izvedbom sada se koriste novim digitalnim alatima i tehnikama za snimanje i objavljivanje ideja vezanih uz izvedbe. Živimo u svijetu koji nije više samo sveprožimljuća izvedbena platforma (kako je Shakespeare napomenuo), nego koji postaje sve željniji dokumentacije, što su neki nazvali arhivističkim obratom.

Ovaj seminar istražuje neke od ključnih koncepata na presjecištu digitalne tehnologije, povijesti, historiografije i izvedbe. Na primjeru nekoliko slučaja (npr. Einstein on the Beach [1976, 2012-13]; Kris Verdonck, Robert Lepage i Wafaa Bilal) razmotrit ćemo implikacije za suvremenu dramaturgiju i istraživanje kazališta i izvedbe u kontekstu navedenih novih medija i metoda. Kako te tehnologije mijenjaju način na koji pišemo povijest kazališta? Kako mi, kao dramaturzi, povjesničari kazališta i teoretičari izvedbe, možemo teoretizirati te promjene?

 

Sarah Bay-Cheng is Professor of Theatre and the Founding Director for the Techne Institute for Art and Emerging Technologies at the University at Buffalo. 

The Techne Institute fosters the intersection of art and sciences through competitive funding, international artist residencies, and educational outreach. In 2010, she created the MA/PhD program in Theatre & Performance and currently serves as Director of Graduate Studies in Theatre. Her current research focuses on intersections of performance and technology, digital historiography and performance, and contemporary theatre, but she has previously published on modern drama and the avant-garde, including Gertrude Stein, poetic drama, and film history. Book publications include Mapping Intermediality in Performance (University of Amsterdam Press/University of Chicago Press, 2010), Poets at Play: An Anthology of Modernist Drama (Susquehanna University Press, 2010), and Mama Dada: Gertrude Stein's Avant-Garde Theater (Routledge, 2005). She is currently collaborating on a new book and website project, Taxonomies: Media x Performance with Jennifer Parker-Starbuck and David Saltz for the University of Michigan Press. She is a regular contributor to journals such as Yale/Theater, Theatre Journal (US), Performance Research (UK), among others. In 2012, Bay-Cheng created the book series Avant-Gardes in Performance for Palgrave Macmillan Press, which she currently co-edits with Martin Harries. From 2010-2013, she served as the Performance Review Editor for Theatre Journal (2010-2013), and is currently a member of the editorial board for the International Journal of Performance Arts and Digital Media. In 2012, she joined the Board of Directors for Performance Studies International (PSi). Since 2008, she has participated as a member of the working group for Intermediality in Theatre & Performance, and the International Federation for Theatre Research (IFTR). Bay-Cheng is also a founding member of the Intermedia Performance Studio (IPS) at UB--an experimental performance collaboration integrating virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and live performance. She is an affiliated faculty member in the Department of Media Study, the Poetics Program in the Department of English, and the Department of Global Gender Studies. Bay-Cheng received her AB in Theatre and Film from Wellesley College and her PhD in Theatre from the University of Michigan.
